Twin Timelines

Part XXXII

Chapter XXXI of Twin Timelines sought to compare how the Twin Spiritual Terminals of Death and Hell -- which were resident in Ahab and Jezebel – were also present in the two nations of Samaria and Judaea. The present work has shown that by diagnosing the historic manifestations of these Split Strongholds, we are in the position where we can anticipate future events when we recognize similar "scripts," in which the dreadful duo are active once again.

The Naboth story, wherein Jezebel's Hellish scheme to accuse Naboth of blasphemy, so the power of Death resident in Ahab would be invoked, presages the machinations of the Jewish priesthood, as they plotted to have Jesus of Nazareth killed.

"Then the Pharisees went out, and held a council against him, how they might destroy him" (Matthew 12:14).

Under the Old Covenant, the Spiritual energy we dubbed the Perdition Engine, operating within Ahab (who had the power of Death intrinsic to the authority to execute), and the entity of Hell within Jezebel (who desired to kill but lacked the authority), decisively overwhelmed the innocent Life in Naboth. As the appointed time for the arrival of the Saviour approached, the identical alignment of the Spirits had developed within the political architecture enveloping Jerusalem.

The Israelite nation in the North had long since ceased its existence as a cohesive political power, as the Israelites were dispersed among the Gentile nations by the Assyrian Empire over a century earlier. The Judaean nation in the South was still intact, but the remnant of the Jews (and Jerusalem), had been relentlessly battered by one power after another. In Daniel's epic prophecy of the quartet of kingdoms, imaged as the composite statue seen in Nebuchadnezzar's prophetic dream of four Gentile kingdoms, God had decreed that Judaea would be dominated by Babylon, and her successors. Further, the LORD had told His Old Covenant people, now known as Judaeans (or Jews), that they would serve the king of Babylon for seventy years.

"And this whole land shall be a desolation, and an astonishment; and these nations shall serve the king of Babylon seventy years" (Jeremiah 25:11).

The Scriptures indicate the Babylonian kingdom would be a powerhouse which the LORD Himself decreed would conquer the ancient Gentile nations as well, and God's prophets warned the Jews of what was to come. We have already treated on the significance of the seventy years of captivity, which was ordained to occur as a reminder to the Jews that this oppression was punishment for Judaea's refusal to favorably respond to the LORD's selection of Jerusalem, as His chosen mediator to the rest of the nations.

The reader will recall that, centuries earlier, God had dispatched seventy sons from the line of Israel to enter into Egypt, to shine His light in that kingdom.

"And all the souls that came out of the loins of Jacob were seventy souls: for Joseph was in Egypt already" (Exodus 1:5).

God had long ago reaffirmed His covenant relationship with Israel, by having Moses select seventy elders to come up to the mountain where Moses interacted with God.

"And [God] said unto Moses, Come up unto the Lord, thou….and seventy of the elders of Israel, and worship ye afar off" (Exodus 24:1).

In a prior chapter of Twin Timelines, we have already detailed how the LORD's judgment on Jerusalem was repeatedly characterized by the number seventy, as a symbolic reminder of the extraordinary role God had ordained for Israel – the divine role of mediator which they eventually rejected. Thus, when the Babylonian Empire overwhelmed Judaea, the LORD inaugurated the cycle of the four kingdoms of Babylon, Persia, Greece, and Rome which would rise chronologically, as a prophetic countdown to the ultimate redemption of Israel through the entrance of the Messiah.

"And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all [four of] these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever" (Daniel 2:44).

At this point it's worth reminding the reader of the importance of the mathematical rhythm of these historic events, as the two kingdoms of Egypt and Assyria were appointed to chastise the Northern kingdom of Israel, before the LORD doubled the punishment for Judaea, via the four kingdoms which would trample down Jerusalem.

"Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry unto her, that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned: for she hath received of the lord's hand double for all her sins" (Isaiah 40:2).

Incredibly, this perspective confirms that the doubled judgment on Judaea (which consisted of the Southern kingdom of Judaea and Jerusalem) consisted of twice the oppression which was leveled against backslidden Israel – a judgment which is easily documented as delivered by the two Gentile powers of Egypt and Assyria. As the prophet Jeremiah so eloquently wrote, Israel's "treacherous sister Judah" followed in Samaria's harlotry, and was delivered by the LORD unto the four Gentile kingdoms in a row – precisely twice the judgment which fell on Northern Israel.

Isaiah tells us the LORD would then "speak comfortably to Jerusalem," as her "iniquity" was to be "pardoned" at that time. The sequence is precisely established as the text says when this "pardon" occurs, Jerusalem will have received "double for all her sins" – and the double punishment Jerusalem received was at the hands of the four Gentile nations of Babylon, Persia, Greece and Rome.

What is even more striking is the fact that Daniel is told that the "pardon" will occur "in the days of these [four] kings," when the LORD sets up His kingdom.

"And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever" (Daniel 2:44).

The prophet Zechariah tells us Isaiah's "pardon" for "iniquity" (Isaiah 40:2), which shall occur after the doubled judgment (placing it in the days of the fourth kingdom, the Roman Empire), indicates this clemency will take the form of the unmerited favor known as grace:

"And I will pour upon the…inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications" (Zechariah 12:10).

Zechariah goes on to tell us the grace of God will be associated with the house of David, and the "inhabitants of Jerusalem," who receive the Spirit that is poured out through the house of David, will look upon one that has been "pierced."

"And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and supplications: and they shall look upon me whom [the Romans] have pierced, and they shall mourn for him" (Zechariah 12:10).

While most of the False Prophets tell us this occurs at the end of days, when the Jews supposedly turn en masse to Christ, it wasn't the Jews who pierced Jesus at the crucifixion, it was the Romans. Further, this remarkable prophecy accurately predicts the events of the LORD's crucifixion, centuries before it occurred. Since Zechariah prophesies of an event when the recipients of the "spirit of grace and supplications," observe someone associated with David who is "pierced," and they "mourn" in "bitterness" when they see this occur ("look upon me" in the text), the prophecy is strikingly fulfilled at the crucifixion of Jesus.

Further, as the Gospels tell us there were many people present, when the Bible tells us "they mourned and wept" when Christ was executed (Mark 16:10), and "there followed him a great company of people, and of women, who also bewailed and lamented" (Luke 23:27), it is the False Prophets who twist this somber prophecy into the distant future in order to sustain the "other Gospel" (Galatians 1:8) which asserts all the Jews will be saved after the so called "Rapture."

"And they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him" (Zechariah 12:10).

Finally, at the crucifixion, when the Roman soldiers did not break the LORD's legs (as was their practice) because they saw he was already dead as they took Him down from the cross, the Word of God us these things fulfilled the prophecy of Zechariah, at that time.

"For these things were done, that the scripture should be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be broken. And, again, another scripture saith, They shall look on him whom they pierced" (John 19:36, 37).

Zechariah also says that God will destroy the nations that have come against Jerusalem – and this prophecy serves as a second witness to the prophecy which says the doubled judgment -- consisting of the four kingdoms in Daniel 2 -- which the LORD raised up to punish Judaea, will be ground to powder.

"Then were the [four kingdoms] broken to pieces together, and became like the chaff of the summer threshing floors; and the wind carried them away, that no place was found for them" (Daniel 2:35).

Thus, when the kingdom of God arrives "in the days of these [four] kings," (Daniel 2:44), and Daniel's prophecy tells us a great stone -- representing the kingdom of God -- destroys the four kingdoms that oppressed Jerusalem as part of her doubled judgment, the prophet is predicting those four empires will be decimated.

"And it shall come to pass, in that day, that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem" (Zechariah 12:9).

As JESUS CHRIST arrived to inaugurate the kingdom of God, we see that the Spiritual alignment which was present in the Northern kingdom of Israel, had then spread to the Southern kingdom of Judaea. Remember, the two factions of Death (in Ahab) and Hell (in Jezebel) had first engulfed Israel in the North, and that is why Samaria was destroyed first.

By the time the doubled judgment on Judaea began with Babylon, the Northern kingdom had already been destroyed by the Assyrian Empire – but the twin iniquities we call the Perdition Engine (comprised of Death and Hell working in lockstep) were then aggressively at work in Judaea. In the Gospels, we see the same alignment which was manifested in Ahab (think Antichrist/Death), Jezebel (think False Prophet/Hell), and Naboth (think Innocent Heir/Life), had emerged once again – but this time, instead of Samaria/Israel, the setting was Judaea.

At that time, Herod the Tetrarch, who had the power to execute, had taken Herodias, his brother's wife to his bed. John the Baptist had reproved Herod, as this was against the law of Moses.

"For Herod had laid hold on John, and bound him, and put him in prison for Herodias' sake…For John said unto him, It is not lawful for thee to have her [but] Herod feared John [and] he feared the multitude; because they counted him as a prophet" (Matthew 14:3-5; Mark 6:20).

Despite the fact that Herodias urged Herod to execute John as she was humiliated by his denunciation, Herod feared John as a prophet, and kept him in prison. Just like Ahab before him, Herod had the power to inflict Death, but was afraid to use it. Conversely, Herodias greatly desired to kill the Baptist, but did not have the authority.

"Therefore Herodias had a quarrel against [John], and would have killed him; but she could not" (Mark 6:19).

On Herod's birthday, in front of the various officials of Judaea, the daughter of Herodias came in and danced for him. The text says her entertainment "pleased" Herod, but it's obvious he was intensely lusting after her, and the king offered the young temptress anything her heart desired.

"And she went forth, and said unto her mother, What shall I ask? And she said, The head of John the Baptist" (Mark 6:24, 25).

Herod greatly regretted that he had publically made such an offer, but he reluctantly agreed to the girl's terms, and executed John. Thus, we see another Temporal Recapitulation of the account concerning Ahab, Jezebel, and Naboth. The third Prophetic Parallel of this Spiritual cycle was to occur shortly thereafter, as the Hell in the Jewish priesthood, manipulated the power of Death in Pontius Pilate, in order to kill the innocent JESUS OF NAZARETH.

In the two instances of this "script" involving Jezebel and Herodias, we see the finite nature of the "two parts [which] shall be cut off and die" (Zechariah 13:8) under the Old Covenant. In both occurrences, the righteous innocent was unjustly murdered, but neither Naboth nor John were resurrected from the dead at that time (although it is self evident they were received by the Father in His kingdom). However, just after Zechariah said that many would "mourn" when they see Him who was "pierced," the prophet went on to record how the LORD will preserve the "third part" – and in the third instance of the work of Death and Hell, the Life in JESUS CHRIST conquered the twin iniquities, and the only begotten Son of God, the Son of David, and the long promised Holy One of Israel defeated Death and Hell, and rose from the dead in victory and power.

"I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death" (Revelation 1:18).
